Durtnell the Builder

Part of a series I made about Britain’s Oldest Family businesses, this film is about R Durtnell and Sons, a family building company in rural Kent that was almost 400 years old. (Sadly the company no longer exists.) In this clip, Alex Durtnell, who had recently taken over as head of the family business, explores a house built by one of his Elizabethan ancestors. It’s surprising how much things have changed, and how little.
