This documentary is about technological hubris. The US military has had a love affair with laser technology, which stems right back to early twentieth century sci-fiction (before lasers were actually invented) and continues, at huge expense, to this day. This clip reveals one of the more benign applications of military funded laser technology. At an air force base in the New Mexico desert I filmed a scientist who wants to travel across the universe on highways of light. But first he has to get to 100 metres.
